Following the IgM response is the development of long term immunity conferred by immunoglobulin G (IgG) which for most primary flavivirus infections can be detected within 9-14 days after the onset of illness. Because IgG antibodies can persist for life, those infected will have lifelong immunity to the particular strain of virus with which they were infected.
